Connecticut Armed Security Blue Card Annual Re-Certification Course

Important Equipment Notice

Effective July 1, 2025, Blackhawk SERPA and SERPA-style holsters that engage or retain the firearm by the trigger guard are prohibited for use during this course.

Attendance Policy

Students must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course start time.

Students who are not present and prepared to begin training at the designated start time will be considered late. Late arrivals will not be admitted to the course and will forfeit all tuition and registration fees. This policy is strictly enforced to maintain course integrity, safety standards, and scheduling requirements.

Mandatory Blue Card Annual Re-Certification

Under Connecticut General Statute §29-161z, all Security Officer Firearms Endorsement holders (Blue Card holders) are required to complete an annual firearms re-certification using the handgun they carry in the performance of their duties.

This half-day re-certification course satisfies the annual training and qualification requirements established by the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP). The program has been approved by the State of Connecticut and is designed to ensure armed security professionals maintain proficiency, safety awareness, and legal compliance.

Certification & Documentation

Upon successful completion of the annual re-certification program, participants will receive the required instructor endorsements and documentation necessary to renew their Security Officer Firearms Endorsement with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection in Middletown, Connecticut.

Required paperwork may be submitted in person or by mail in accordance with current state procedures.

Required Equipment

Students are required to bring the following equipment:

  • Duty handgun

  • Minimum of three (3) magazines or speedloaders

  • Duty belt

  • Outside-the-waistband (OWB) double magazine or speedloader pouch

  • Closed-toe footwear

  • Long-sleeve shirt

  • Pants (shorts are not permitted)

  • Brimmed hat

  • Appropriate weather gear for outdoor training

  • Wraparound eye protection

  • Hearing protection

  • Notebook and pen for note-taking

  • Minimum of 240 rounds of ammunition
